Wellness Wednesday: Oil Pulling?

14 weeks left in 2010. I am going to dedicate a weekly blog for the remainder of the year to trying some sort of new or different activity related in some way, shape or form to wellness.

Today's Wellness Wednesday topic is Oil Pulling.

Oil... what?!?!?

So, I was reading about cooking with coconut oil and clicked a link on the web site that was discussing this technique claimed to have many positive effects from eliminating plaque and gingivitis to lowering blood pressure, reducing headache and sinus issues, glossier hair, clearer skin, etc., etc.

The best part is that it is easy. It is inexpensive. And you can do it at home. So I decided to test it. Why not? It certainly couldn't be worse than some mouth washes out there.

All you need is safflower, sunflower, sesame, olive, or coconut oil. It's best to do first thing in the morning. Take a tablespoon of the oil, put in your mooth and swoosh it around for 10 to 20 minutes, spit it out, rinse your mouth thoroughly and off you go.

Apparently, the way it works is... bacteria is attracted to the oil, thus pulling toxins out of your body through your mouth. [If you try this at home, do not gargle or swallow the oil, as it becomes toxic as it mixes with saliva and bacteria.]

So the results of my test are inconclusive thus far. My mouth did feel a bit cleaner after the swishing. However, it was hard not to speak for 15 minutes, as I was trying to make breakfast and get the hubby on his way to work. I will continue to try this for a few weeks and see what happens.

Happy Swishing!

Morning Constitutional

DaDa sent me this pic on my cell phone when I was out running errands. I think we are getting close to the potty training stage.

In fact, yesterday morning after breakfast, Larsson went and sat on the potty.... with his diaper on... to take care of his business.

Yea. Can't wait to be done with diapers.

Friday Fun Photo

This photo goes back like 6 months. But it makes me laugh.

And I think it seals the deal for our final Halloween costume selection. I have been debating four ideas for the past month. All of which I love.

My Little Gentleman

Sometimes, he is very rambunctous.

I get a little nervous that he might tackle kids smaller than him. I've seen it happen. He doesn't intend to hurt them. Just is playing, hugging, having fun....

So when Kes (13 months) came to visit Larsson (19 months) yesterday, I was watching closely. Especially when he made a bee line over to her trying to get into his box of snacks.

But when he got to her, he reached in the box and then held out a sweaty palmful of snacks for her. She gladly accepted.

Then they went on a little wagon ride. When the wagon stopped, Larsson stepped out and looked at Kes. There was a moment of panic when I thought he would pull her out. But instead he gently acted like he was going to pick her up and then took her hand to help her out.

Where is the camera when you need it? Just precious.
