Happy Birthday PawPaw... Really.
For the second year in a row, we called and sang "Happy Birthday" to PawPaw... ON THE WRONG DAY! For some reason, Justin thinks PawPaw's birthday is October 17th. And now he's got me and Tater thinking it too. We tried to get others in on the joke to call PawPaw early. Without much success.
But alas, better early than never. And now, here we are - October 27th - PawPaw's birthday.
Hope it's a great one!

You Need a Cold Shower
Sunday morning, Larsson and I stopped next door to say hi to Julia. Julia was doing yard work in preparation for a new play house and sandbox. While we were surveying Julia's work, my mom called to ask for our plans for the day. I had been chatting with her for maybe two minutes... when all of a sudden, freezing cold water hit my legs. In a bit of shock, I looked around. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. But Larsson was getting soaked too. From head to toe. And he was SCREAM-ing.
Then I saw the hose sprayer near his feet. Instead of trying to figure out how to turn it off, I decided Larsson and I just needed to get out of its reach. I dropped the phone. Grabbed Larsson's arm and went running. But it seemed we couldn't escape it. Until Julia took charge and turned off the water.
And there we stood. Freezing and soaked. And totally uncomfortable. But Julia and I started laughing. The sight of it all must have been hilarious.
That's my curious little helper. I don't know how his little hands turned on the sprayer. And how he did it right under my nose. But that unexpected cold shower definitely woke us both up.

Wellness Wednesday: What's in this stuff?
Weekly wellness topic: Cosmetic's Safety Database
Ever wonder what's really in the products we buy? And why would this one be better than that one? And when it says natural is it really? And are the things I use everyday really safe?
I found this great web site earlier this year - the Environmental Working Group's Cosmetic Safety Database. It looks at the ingredients in products, like nail polish, hand wash, shampoo and assigns the product a rating of low, moderate or high hazard.
It is easy to use and has reviews on TONS of brands. So if you are wondering whether your mascara may contain mercury, take a look.

Happy Birthday MawMaw!
Hope you had a wonderful birthday weekend, MawMaw!
Tater enjoyed seeing you this weekend and was glad to show you his new trick - his second ever pottypoo.
I'm so excited he is showing an interest in potty training that I feel like it's my birthday. :)

Wellness Wednesday: Calm
Weekly wellness topic: Magnesium
I recently went to the health store to stock up on vitamins and supplements. One of the things I used to buy and added to my cart was Magnesium.
A wellness clinic I visited two to three years ago always gave clients two recommendations: fiber and powered magnesium.
Magnesium helps muscles and nerves function properly; it keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system and also assists in keeping bones strong. This essential mineral helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure and is required for producing and storing energy. - per Peter Gillham's web site
It's the stress management part that appealed to me. Our diets these days do not typically get us as much magnesium as we need, and the wellness clinic recommended a supplement called Natural Calm.
I loved this product and thought it worked wonders. I used to put a heaping tablespoon into hot water and drink it 30 minutes before bed, like tea. It helped me fall asleep almost immediately and get a restful night sleep.
Try oil pulling in the morning and a magnesium tea at night for better health. And a better night's sleep.
